CENTRE FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION- IIT MADRAS

 Website: http://www.cnde-iitm.org

 INFORMATION

The Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE) will focus on the research and development of new nondestructive evaluation (NDE) theories and methods for use in industrial applications, as well as the dissemination of knowledge in this field. NDE involves use of various non-invasive measurement techniques to determine the integrity of a structure, component, material or a process, without decreasing the usefulness of the product or changing the process parameters. NDE also finds an important role in the area of process-monitoring for improved quality and cost-effective production as well as in the area of health monitoring of structures. NDE is a truly multi-disciplinary field that requires collaboration of expertise from engineering, sciences and technology to produce products and process. This process involves the synergistic implementation of a wide range of sensor technologies (acoustic, electromagnetic, radiographic, thermal, and optic) with the science of materials, mechanics, manufacturing, and the technologies involving electronics, data processing and visualization (hardware and software).

MISSION STATEMENT

The Center for Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation at IITM will strive to be a world leader in NDE information, research, education, and training, through the development of the means to achieve and enhance important NDE engineering methodologies, measurement techniques and interpretive models for more reproducibility, reliability and life extension of materials, structures and processes.

OBJECTIVES

To provide enhanced education and training in the area of NDE that caters to Industry.

To perform industrially relevant research and develop products and processes.

To provide a national focal point for information and technology transfer to industry.
